Preliminary Task - Feed The Fish
This is our preliminary task, 'Feed the Fish'.
This task allowed us to become familiar with the equipment and the various settings that they contained, to make s more familiar with the equipment before the final project.
It was a bit silly with the masks and props, but we didn't want it to be too serious and just wanted to gain confidence with the equipment for our final product.
There were certain aspects that we felt were good, and others that we felt were not as good.
I feel that we used a good variety of shots, especially for beginners, such as over the shoulder shots.
I also feel that the cut aways we used were good, and helped to make it flow, besides a few jumpy moments.
We followed the 180ยบ rule, in which the camera isn't allowed to pass a certain line when the characters are interacting, as it disrupts continuity; we were very aware of this and ensured that we didn't cross the line.
I'm happy with this as this was our first experience with the camera and editing, as well as getting work done.
There were also certain aspects we weren't as happy with, such as the quality of filming, more specifically the lack of a tripod; this resulted in a shaky picture that didn't look very good. I feel this was the major flaw. The setting was also slightly random and didn't really fit the production. We just took any available classroom, and didn't realise how important location was.
It gave us experience on time management once on set, experience with the technology and how to direct the cast. These are all aspects that we will make into account when filming our final product, and we will hopefully improve on these aspects to make our final production as good as it can be.
